鳥の子/Torinoko Beige
The feeling of spring arrives quietly in the small moments of everyday life.
Sometimes we become aware of the season through the calendar, at other times, we sense spring in the softness of the light or the movement of the wind.

In the garden of the Hōkyō-ji Temple, there is a tree where, every year, the young bush warblers, known as uguisu in Japanese, can be heard singing their first notes. At Hiyoshiya, located at the entrance of the Hōkyō-ji Temple, we feel the arrival of spring in the soft calls of these young birds.

The Uguisu Wagasa, a traditional Japanese sun umbrella, was born in a workshop filled with that same springtime warmth. With soft uguisu-green washi paper - the color of the bush warbler - gracing the canopy’s edge and the runner, it brings a fresh hint of the season to daily life.

Three Distinct Washi Styles
SAKURA - Cherry Blossom
Made with sakura washi paper from Okayama, this sun umbrella allows you to enjoy the soft, delicate texture created by interwoven mulberry fibers.
The bengara-dyed cherry blossom color appears even more delicate when light shines through it.
The warmth of the natural materials creates a soft, elegant atmosphere, making it especially suitable for spring and other mild seasons.

INDIGO
A deep navy blue piece made with plant-dyed washi paper from Toyama.
Though smooth to the touch, the embedded mulberry fibers subtly emerge, revealing the material’s natural character.
Its rich tone gently filters sunlight, making it an elegant choice for those who appreciate calm sophistication.

TORINOKO - Beige
A light and airy piece made with washi paper dyed in a soft, eggshell-toned beige, cherished by connoisseurs of traditional Japanese aesthetics for its subtle elegance.
Fine mulberry fibers within the washi paper give it a rich, organic texture unique to natural materials. Its gentle, luminous color pairs well with any outfit, making it easy to use in everyday life.

A parasol ready for sudden rain
The Uguisu Wagasa is treated with water-repellent finish, allowing it to handle unexpected rain.
It is a reliable companion for outings in any weather.
Easy to carry, with a uguisu-themed bag
The wooden handle is crafted in two detachable sections with a screw joint.
When placed in the included bag, it can be carried with your arm through the strap like a handbag.

Another convenient feature is the inner pocket that stores the handle.

Custom orders available
We also offer personalization, including names, family crests, shop logos, and custom-painted designs.
Please feel free to contact us for inquiries and original orders (additional fees apply).
Before using a traditional Japanese umbrella (wagasa)
Unlike Western umbrellas, when folding and carrying or placing the wagasa, it should be held with the tip upward and the handle downward.
If placed upside down, water may enter the inside and cause damage. If the umbrella becomes wet in sudden rain, please dry it thoroughly in a well-ventilated, shaded area, avoiding direct sunlight.
