In Omihachiman City in Shiga Prefecture, there have long been many bamboo groves along the banks of Lake Biwa, where high-quality bamboo grows. Takematsu Shoten has been dealing with bamboo for more than 130 years since 1887, transforming the material into everyday objects. In recent years, they have been hiring and training young craftsmen, keeping always in mind to improve their skills and keep harmony with nature. In the BIWAKOTO project, we have developed BB stools and side tables that can be adapted to modern interior spaces while taking advantage of the characteristics of bamboo. In Hiyoshiya showroom, we also use these stools and they are popular among our visitors for their design and comfort.
