Founded in the late Edo period,
Hiyoshiya is the only remaining traditional umbrella maker
still practicing the techniques of kyo-wagasa (traditional Kyoto-style umbrellas).

Guided by the philosophy that ‘tradition is continuous innovation’,
the company also develops lighting designs
inspired the structural principles of the wagasa (traditional Japanese umbrella).

In our online shop, we present Hiyoshiya’s own creations alongside outstanding works by artisans
whom the fifth-generation head, Kotaro Nishibori, has encountered across Japan.

In addition, its group company, Hiyoshiya Craft-Lab, conveys the appeal of Japan’s traditional crafts
through interior design and consulting projects.
