For about three centuries, the Tango region of northern Kyoto Prefecture has held its position as Japan's foremost producer of silk textiles, and to this day, over 70% of the silk textiles used in traditional Japanese clothing are woven in this area.
In this region, the Yasuda Orimono workshop weaves the exquisite Tango silk crepe, a traditional fabric employed in Japanese kimono attire.





Established in Tango in 1952, Yasuda Orimono is currently managed by the third-generation successor, Shoji Yasuda. Among various products, the workshop specializes in weaving lightweight fabrics with a transparent feel, perfect for summer wear. Especially renowned in the Tango silk crepe collection are the fabrics "ro" and « sha."

In recent years, the workshop has expanded the product line into fashion accessories such as stoles, primarily using silk materials. The collaboration with Mr. Yasuda began when he participated in the Kyoto Prefecture-organized "TÉ.ORI" project, where we had the opportunity to provide support and cooperate.





Yasuda Orimono excels in "Karami-ori," a weaving technique that artfully creates space within lightweight fabrics. This technique enables the weaving of a unique three-dimensional texture that incorporates translucent sections within the material. Due to the complexity of the "Karami-ori" method, the fabric can only be woven very slowly, resulting in each piece becoming a rare and precious handcrafted item.





In the "TÉ.ORI" project, the French textile designer Mathilde Bergeron developed the "Karami-ori Geometric Stole." The weaving process is so complex that despite multiple explanations, neither the designer nor I could fully comprehend the intricacies until the very end. For the realization of the design, Mr. Yasuda skillfully addressed all technical aspects. The collaboration resulted in the creation of a beautiful stole that has gained much popularity in Paris.
