Hiyoshiya’s Wagasa

Wagasa has prospered and has been used since a very old age in Kyoto.

Wagasa has developed uniquely under the eyes of people in Kyoto with knowledge and a sense of beauty. Kyo-wagasa was developed throughout time. Kyo-wagasa stands out with the elegant simplicity in design, made of high-quality materials, made by high-skilled craftsmen whose technique is promising.

At its peak, wagasa was sold over 1000,0000 in amount, per year, however as western umbrellas were introduced to Japan. In the Meiji period, wagasa no longer fit the lifestyle of modernized Japanese people. Currently, we are the only manufacturer in Kyoto.

It is not used in daily life anymore, however, we are striving to create wagasa that can be more familiar and enjoyed in various situations by diverse people.
